He is alone along the face
below the crest of the ridge
breaking fast on the sweet green
shoots and flowering plants
in the shade of the rock face
He is not lonely, simply solitary
Older and more experienced
perhaps set in habits learned
he seeks solitude maybe preparing
for mating season to come
Whatever his reason, he is content
finding shade for the morning
concealing after the meal,
of only the best succulents
he is alone, though not lonely
I wonder what he thinks
what wisdom gained
that he may share when
he rejoins the herd
ending his solitude
