When we started our writer's group, we were a group of strangers. Realizing that it is very difficult for a group of strangers to trust and share intimately their thoughts and feelings, as is required for a writer's group to function, we began with a collaborative writing activity.
The goal was to get to know each other, have fun, and be creative. It was not to produce a world class short story (which it isn't).

Have you ever had a moment (or even days) when your creative juices not only stopped flowing, they couldn't be found? Most writers have. Indeed, it sometimes happens with annoying regularity. Writers sometimes go to great lengths to overcome the condition. Some of our tricks are simply ways to distract the mind so that it can unwind itself and the juices start flowing. For me, I often go do something physical - a workout in the pool or a half day of hard skiing. When I return, I can work again.
