To day we walked the rocks
a path often trod
familiar through frequency
yet always seeming new
As the day’s heat rose,
nature seemed to shelter
a few birds calling
animals finding shade
deep in foliage
where the shade is cool
rabbits rested, some visible
sharing the shade with others
Still, life beckoned
ants rebuilding after the rain
lady bugs sheltering
among the fronds, feasting
While animals sought cover
flowers seemed excited
look in any direction
and find colorful companions
most familiar, common even
beautiful still and everywhere
spring colors yellow and white
joined by shades of purple
yet there is always more
along the trail, at its side
we stumbled over a tiny
orange gem, never seen
delicate in the gentle breeze
belying its strength
standing tall and proud
not lonely, perhaps, just the first
But new and unrecognized
That is the wonder
no matter how often we tread
there is always something new
and that keeps us coming back
