Mid February with snow covered trails

Expected not realized this year

Fields showing green and new growth

Trees in bud, as if late spring

Too early for such growth

brown is still dominant,

underneath is green

showing disruption in expectations

Deer fat and content

with new growth to feed

Dominant colors speak of fall

though weather hints of spring

seasons seem confused, with

a hint of winter along the trail

Until a small flash of color catches the eye

Hidden among dry and tan grass

a small, deep purple flower

so delicate climbs through

reaching to the sky

a miracle of grace and life
