Recovery is challenging
So many changes as one struggles
medications, exercises, examinations
too many people, all concerned
then not enough
Each aspect a challenge
hardest, though, is being alone
limited activity to give the body time
but little to occupy the self
Not even company
it is understandable
people have their own lives
often stressed, unable to take on more
yet the loneliness takes its toll
people tring to recover feel forgotten
Feeling alone and forgotten
as recovery drags on
may lead to depression
in turn dragging down recovery
But it need not
people can remember us
and find ways to surprise
raising spirits -
a text or call, a visit or an invitation
a homemade dinner or a card unexpected
anything to break the pattern
to give a purpose
even if only for a few minutes
the goal is to share some time
so loneliness does not impede recovery
