When we started our writer's group, we were a group of strangers. Realizing that it is very difficult for a group of strangers to trust and share intimately their thoughts and feelings, as is required for a writer's group to function, we began with a collaborative writing activity.

The goal was to get to know each other, have fun, and be creative. It was not to produce a world class short story (which it isn't).

Each member had her or his own colored marker. Then, starting with one volunteer, each member wrote one sentence starting at the outside edge of a piece of poster board. Each person followed in turn. For about 45 minutes we laughed and teased each other and began the relationships that tie us together as writers and as friends.

What follows is the story we created. Please read and enjoy.

You may even want to try this activity at your next party.

The Three Eared Rabbit

Once upon a time there was a rabbit. This rabbit was known in the forest for having 3 ears. This made the rabbit very happy because he was also blind. This made him happy because he saw the world differently. Being born in a cryo chamber would do that to any unworthy rabbit of such stature. But how does one truly receive the divinity to judge who is worthy and who is not... Though the rabbit was not such a worthy animal he found solace in judging others of their differences. He never realized that maybe this explained his unfathomable unpopularity. Unfortunately for him, everything was going to change. One day the nearby creek had been flooded with radioactive waste and as he jumped in he was turned to a green raging ball of sith dealings in his head! But because George the bunny did not wish to be overwhelmed with power, he chose to seek out rainbow rock where he would forever be banished of all the sins & flaws of the power-hungry bunny-society. So George traveled to the underground, in search of the illusive rainbow rock hiding amongst the angry introverted beavers., Who, hoarded the rainbow-rock deep in a laberinth because it's power could not work for them and they, in their jealousy, could not allow anyone else it's sacred use. It was difficult trying to find the rainbow-rock because it was among many other colorful rocks. But, when Dr. Strange figured out that the rock had it's own aura emitted at a individual frequency he was able to find it and take it home in safe keeping, or so we thought...
