Morning sky lightly clouded
with sun behind, shining through
A warm, gentle breeze through
leafing trees, branches waving
concealing the many birds
We can hear them
chirps, squawks, and songs
surrounding us as we walk
or flitting from tree to tree
and branch to branches
The world coming alive joyful
in the earliest spring in memory
nesting, or showing off to attract
a mate, animals moving
alert to their surroundings
Yet every time we close in
to see or take a photo
they turn, they run into the brush
or they move to the other side
of the branches, hiding from view
Every time we lift the camera
giving us a profile or portrait
they move, turning away
or behind trunks or under brush
or simply turning tail toward us
Continuing on with their lives
unwilling to share today
sometimes they pause and pose
but not today, too engrossed in
needs and tasks to be bothered
Still, nature knows
watching us, every now and then
taking a moment to show off
sharing the magnificence and wonder
for us to capture and marvel
