It has been just seven months since my heart attack and everything else. During that time I was really not able to write creatively, until now. I don't know why, but it seemed as if the weight of circumstance worked against me, demanding I focus on other "things" and that I not force myself. It was (and is) a difficult challenge. But finally, today, creativity returned.
I don't claim that this simple poem is one of my best or even that it is mediocre. But, it is a poem of significance because I met the flower on a hike with Maya, getting me out and into nature. It stood high and proud and all by itself and spoke to me. So, I share with you, our readers
_------------------------------------------
Surrounded by a sea of green,
topped by browning seeds,
It stands, isolated and alone.
No others of its kind to be seen.
Tall it is on sturdy stem
Standing attention,
still among the waving fronds
soft lavender, rising to brilliant white.
Petals softly curving as if protecting each
A tower of gentle strength and grace
proclaiming to the world,
I am here.
