A response to the breaking news today and last week (3/27/23) and far too many other days.
Will it never stop?
Again and again the
Breaking News
Another child, another teacher
dead at school
Every week, it seems
Another school
Another community disrupted
And yet, we don’t act
Schools aren’t the only deaths
Parking lots that never make the news
That never capture our “national” attention
Are they less worthy of morning or acting?
The robbery gone wrong at the grocery store
Is it less worthy?
The bank where a disgruntled former employee
shoots those thought to be the culprits
Indiscriminate in the destruction
Is it a call to change?
We morn them all
For a day or two, maybe a week
Then there is another and another
When will we do more?
Activists are born of each act of violence
We don’t listen. Instead expel the messengers.
It’s someone else’s problem.
When will our , so called, “leaders”
have the Courage to act?
To save the children?
To save our souls?
To save the stranger we will never meet?
To bring an end to needless suffering?
