Putting words on paper

does not make one a writer

simple communication perhaps

but not though provoking

and not fulfilling of some need

writing can be just a job

pennies for words

putting food on the table

making ends meet

it is a sort of writing

it’s not a novel

or collection of poems

words on a page does

not define a writer

or does it?

Poetry, songs, stories

all share something

a bit of soul, of vision

of how the world is perceived

by the one sharing the words

But just putting words on

paper may make a writer

when the words communicate

with purpose, coherently

so others may succeed

Yet some are driven to do more

to reach deeper into the soul

and be vulnerable, sharing

their visions, dreams, even nightmare

That we all may grow

Are these writers different?

All communicate with purpose

all share from the soul

all write with a purpose

all provide service to the world

All can become writers

It just takes purpose

vision, communication

and practice sharing

for others to grow and learn

And that defines the writer

all of can be, if we look

beyond ourselves to

the community where we

share lives, feelings, and the world
