Pause,

Giggle

Happening all around the room

A sunny afternoon

Youngsters gathered for some fun

Escaping the heat

Bang, bang,

Pause,

Giggle

Sun, through window shining

Gentle breeze cooling the barn

Fourteen youth with hammers

And nails, creating

Pause,

Giggle

It’s not for precision

It’s not for art

Hammers and nails

An 8 year old’s joy

Bang, bang,

Pause,

Giggle

Joy not from creating

except as noise

But from pounding,

hammer and nail meeting wood

Bang, bang,

Pause,

Giggle

Class nearing the end

Pounding faster

And louder, too.

“Must put one more nail.”

Bang, bang,

No Pause,

Laughter reaches crescendo

As class ends
