Breeze gently pushing tall grass
Birds chirping nearby in trees and bushes
Young doe leaping gracefully across the path
No cares, simply joy in the day
A friendly wren poses for a selfie, looking for grubs,
A pause, to take a breath.
A front moves in
waist high grass blows back and forth
Beautiful but unpredictable
Then hail, just as tents go up
Stopping only when gear is stowed
Wild turkeys walk, sometimes run
along the road, Not caring about traffic or spectators
Cars, trucks, people not their concern -
Simply getting to a destination,
looking neither right nor left, until they turn.
Perhaps they have arrived.
Wrens in a paper towel dispenser
Not caring about noise or vibration
Not really friendly, the neighbor you wave at,
but never really speak to
Ignoring campers walking by,
stopping occasionally to wash hands,
never noticing their neighbors.
The emerald humming bird flits quietly among wild flowers.
Sometimes rising, seeking a new target,
Then flitting down, finding nectar
Hovering for an instant, always in motion
Too busy to stop and chat.
A sudden downpour, then all is still
The sun peaks through and
A soaked, bedraggled robin
Lands on a table, puddles fresh full of insect life
Calmly, without care, he hops from table to table,
seeking snacks and useful provender
Blood thirsty mosquitoes attack
Without warning or remorse.
We respond in kind.
So still, we long for sound,
any sound.
Nature answers with violent storms,
Revealing her power.
Thunder slams the body.
Buzzards circle lazily
on wind and thermals
Suddenly veering off,
one after the other,
Arrows from a bow.
Sun breaks through
After a morning soak
Golden and shining
Reflecting off drops
On leaves
All is fresh and renewed
Mid afternoon
under overcast skies
so still, for a moment,
all is quiet and serene.
A mad scramble when
The food is wrong, again!
Still, the well oiled machine
That is the quartermasters
Overcomes all challenges
with Grace.
Quartermasters Rule!!
Cheese and sausage
Crackers and cake
Snacks for bellies
Ready for sleep
A rocker in the shade
squeaking with each pass
Hat shading tired eyes
Slowly back and forth
Occupant napping
Showers after a hot and dusty day
Are next to heaven.
A young buck, 2 years or so
joined breakfast
Front feet dancing
As he looked left and right
wondering what joined
him for breakfast
Lightning suddenly crashing in the trees around us
the storm after the pause.
Seeking shelter,
changing plans,
adapting.
It is life
