Decisions made in panic,
Often rash
Conditions overwhelming
Impossible to control
Yet some control is needed...
for sanity...
Something has to be ours.
But everything is happening to us
We spin,
Looking for a way out.
Depression, anxiety, fear all competing
Panic,
Decisions made despite consequences
A twister, blowing us this way and that
Too much to confront
So we control the only things we can
Diet, hygiene, insult,
Lashing out...
Harming ourselves and others
No solutions here.
Yet, if we can pause,
Withstanding the surge,
We may find the eye,
A calm space, a moment’s rest
We can breathe and center.
Here we can listen to
Ourselves, others, even God
Paths can be found in the calm
Steps to take, some very hard
Choices to make
And mission in life
To serve rather than succumb
For serving others,
Even when lost,
Gives anchor.
Anchored,
No longer spinning in the maelstrom
We contribute,
We feel success,
We find our way.
