The interesting thing about the light, is that it stands out most when it enters the darkness. One of the reasons I find peoples stories about dealing with trauma or depression, or a relative dying, so compelling is because these can be very dark, and horrible things.  But I love hearing about the success stories, the ones about people overcoming addiction, overcoming some obstacle because it shows the two extremes, the light and the dark.

I have always found light beautiful. Every time I see a sun rise, I am filled with hope. I long to see the sun rise every morning. I love rooms with full length south facing windows. I love warmth, especially that which comes from direct sunlight.  The first color that was ever my favorite was the color yellow; that had to be, because the sun looked yellow, and was always drawn that way in pictures.

The interesting thing about light, is that you can’t cut it, or split into two halves, one on each side of a barrier, like you can with water. It is always connected to that which it came from. It can not really exist outside of its source. Technically this isn’t quite true, the light from stars we see takes so long to reach us that sometimes a star could have disappeared but from our place on this small planet it still looks like it is there.

However, my point still stands I think, light is a thing a of beauty and hope, a thing of joy, and that is always made ever the more real when you see light next to darkness.
