The phone rang .
“Hello?” i said, “Hello”. No one was there. I hung up.
All the lights went out. I heard a bang downstairs and a loud crash. I picked up my phone to dial 911. The power was out as well. No service.
My parents had left for the week for some stupid trip. I was all alone. Then I thought “ Wait why didn't the dog bark?” Just then I heard a loud whimper followed by silence. I wasn't about to get up to see, I was frozen in my bed.
I can hear someone crashing around below, but no footsteps on the stairs. A screech comes from the hallway. Whatever is in my house, it doesn’t sound human or like an animal. I reach for my nightstand, scrummaging through the drawer for my flashlight. It’s gone!
What the actual hell is going on I think to myself. I grab my bat from underneath my bed. Opening the door, a cold breeze flies by. Shivering I walk down the hallway looking before I go down the stairs.
”Hello?, I say, “if there is someone down there you need to leave! I have a bat!”
Coming from the kitchen, it sounds like someone running across the floor. I freeze once again. This doesn’t feel normal, it doesn’t feel as if someone is going to rob or kidnap me.
One step at a time I creep down. The wood stairs are cold and noisy. Taking a deep breath I start again. I feel like i was dreaming but it wasn't a dream it was a nightmare. I get down the stairs, its quiet. I feel something tug on my foot. I scream, closing my eyes, start swinging my bat around. Nothing, absolutely nothing. I open my eyes and stare at the kitchen, that's where the sound I heard before came from.
There in a pool of blood ,my golden retriever lies lifeless. In total shock I start bawling my eyes out. Stepping back slowly, still staring down at my once best friend, I fall. I fell on something. Not knowing what it is I pick it up. the moon is shining in from the sliding glass door I put it where Ican see it, a box.
Written on the top, on a old piece of paper, “ Elizabeth, this isn't a joke, you have an hour to find a way out of your home. If not you'll die, No questions.”
Slowly, starting to freak, out I open the box. Inside are my flashlight, a lighter, a magnify glass and a old rusty metal rod of some sort. I quickly pick up my flashlight turning it on and looking inside the box.
Another note reads “ Good luck, oh and by the way, you're not alone in that house.”
Then something that sounded like glass shatters behind me. I jump back, looking down with my flashlight a cup has fallen. Or was it thrown? This is more scary than my first roller coaster ride. I put the items from the box in my pajama pants pocket.
Walking downstairs into the basement with only a flashlight leading my way, I hear the upstairs bathroom door slam, but I didn’t hear it open. Jumping, almost falling on the cold hard wood floor, I feel a hand on my shoulder. Turning quickly and pointing the flashlight all I see is blank wall, no one's there.
I think to myself “ What the hell touched me? There's nothing there!” Taking a deep breath ,I make my way to the laundry room and the breaker box, I start flipping everything that moves. Nothing happens besides the damn thing clicking. Making my way back up to the living room, My light starts to flicker. Not a creepy flicker, but a terrifying flicker with a clicking. The clicking sounds like a giant light switch being turned off and on, but with no effect.
Knock! Knock! Comes from the front door.
“ Please be the police”, I say out loud even though no one can hear me. The knocking continues so I rush to open the door, even if it’s a stranger. The door won't open, as if the person on the other side is holding the door. The door is unlocked. It doesn't make sense.
Suddenly, two black hands appear on the glass of the door with a bang. I jump back and i see a note right on the bottom of the door. It reads “ 45 minutes, you’re not doing very well. Maybe we will make it easier.”
After I read the note I hear the bathroom door upstairs slam again ,but no creak just a loud slam.
“ Why are you doing this to me!!???” I yell loudly, hoping whoever is in my house will hear it and leave me alone, or at least let me leave.
I nervously wait for a response, but absolutely nothing, no slam, no knock, nothing. Just silence.
Sighing with relief that the noise stopped, I hear it, whatever it is, breathing in my ear, making my hair move. Still sitting on the floor, I dont move paranoid that whatever it is it's going to kill me.
Within seconds as quickly as it started it stops. Looking behind me, it's dark. I pick up my flashlight, I see nothing again. Now I'm starting to get mad not just mad but I’m pissed! I didn't do anything to deserve this! Nothing!! I wanna just hide in a closet but I need to get out of this house!!
I don't know what to do, so I just sit on the floor for a minute and think about my next move. I take out the items in my pocket. I still have them but none of them seem useful.Standing up, I look towards the kitchen.Someone is standing at the sliding glass door. I freeze. He’s wearing all black with a mask and a hat, the whole get up. His hands are cupped to the glass looking in. I’m still not moving, but something falls from upstairs, catching the attention of this man.
Thinking I’m safe and sound, I see that the latch on the door is starting to move. I run over and put all my force on the latch to keep it locked. I'm too afraid to look up because I will be face to face with the person who is messing with me, or so I think.
He starts banging on the door like a drum. It's so loud. It's starting to sound just like my heartbeat. Getting tired of holding the latch ,I look up. He's gone. No banging, no staring, nothing. He just disappeared into thin air, no trace or sign of him. The sound I’d heard, the banging, is my heart. The house is silent, the banging is in my ears. It's only just my heart beat.
I look around, it's pitch black and my flashlight starts to flicker and crackle. The full moon light is seeping in through the blinds. I remember the box and I bring out the lighter. It's my only light source besides the moon light beaming in. I look down. There's a note, “ 32 minutes, the house is not empty anymore and you’re running out of oxygen”.
“Oxygen?! Can breathe just fine.” I say out loud knowing that I'm not in there alone anymore.
I can feel my lungs starting to give out. I’m running out of breath and I’m not even moving. I need water. I go to the sink. With the moonlight through the window, I see a cup on the drying rack and then grabbing it I turn on the cold water. Nothing is coming out. I try again and it's not water, its blood. Not just old dry blood, It’s fresh blood, like when you go to the doctors and they draw blood for tests. I jump back and open my mouth to scream but nothing comes out. I can’t talk, I can't move, I'm stuck.
I look back into the darkness and I see a shadow right in front of the door. It’s not moving, just staring at me.
I get my legs to move and slowly try to walk up the stairs. I feel like I'm dragging my feet in mud. The shadow monster seems to be walking slowly behind, but everytime I look to see if he's there, he seems to move back a few feet instead of right behind me. I start crawling up the stairs again. This time I feel breathing on my hair moving with every breath. Now in the hallway, I’m on my way to the bathroom to see if I can find a way out.
Entering the bathroom, locking the door, I sit against it to relax.
“ Okay and then what?” a voice came loud and clear.
“ Excuse me?” I say out loud.
That's when I came to in a weird smelling hospital bed. Two cops tower over me like vultures.
“ And then what happened?” the lady cop asked strictly.
“Wait where am I?” I say rubbing my eyes.
“ Elizabeth, you’re at the hospital. Your parents were murdered, and the only person that was with them was you.” Replied the male cop.
“ But wait, I was just….. in my….” I stutter.
“ When we came to the house your eyes where closed and you were talking to a “ Mr peterson” and a cat named Arnold.” the lady cop interrupted rudely.
Sitting in my stiff hospital bed I lean back and whisper to myself “ I didn't even escape from the house.”
The lady cop starts again, “ We need to know what happened that night and you need to start telling us what happened.”
I look at her with a evil eye and reply “ I don't even know what you’re talking about, my parents were on a vacation thingy and was left home alone. And then out of nowhere I’m in this crummy hospital bed with to cops who aren't even nice, talking to me about something I didn't even know about, I wasn't even there. I was stuck in my house! Did you guys even find that creep?!”
A doctor walks in, and says something to the lady cop, and looks at me and says “ We’re going to start you on this medication for the hallucinations and the talking in your head, but mainly for the schizophrenia”.
